Rice Grain Milling: Overview

Rice grain milling is the process of converting paddy (unmilled rice) into polished rice, rice flour, bran, and other byproducts while maintaining quality and nutritional value. It is essential for producing consumable rice and starch-based products.

Rice Grain Production

Raw Material

Paddy Rice : Carefully selected for quality, moisture content, and purity.
Water : Used in some conditioning processes.

Rice Milling Process

  1. Cleaning and Sorting : Paddy is cleaned to remove stones, dust, husks, and other foreign materials using sieves, aspirators, and magnets.
  2. Husking/Dehusking : The outer husk of paddy is removed using rubber rollers or hulling machines, producing brown rice and separated husk.
  3. Polishing/Whitening : Brown rice is polished to remove bran layers, producing white rice. Polishing can be done using friction or abrasive machines.
  4. Grading and Sorting : Polished rice is sorted based on size, broken grains are separated, and impurities are removed for uniform quality.
  5. Packaging : Finished rice, rice flour, and bran are packed for storage and distribution.
